I am a professional freelance translator working from German and Spanish into English. In May 2019, I was awarded a Special Commendation from the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) in the ITI Awards category Best Newcomer (Freelancing).
I have a passion for literary translation, with a special interest in books for children and young adults. My first translated children’s book was published in August 2019.
You can read my thoughts on the importance of translated and world books for children here on the Lantana Publishing blog.
In July 2018, I attended the British Centre for Literary Translation Summer School attending the Spanish workshop run by Anne McLean. In July 2019, I participated in the German workshop led by Katy Derbyshire at the Warwick Translates Summer School.
I love reading new books and sharing my reviews. Please take a look at my book reviews for some of my recent reads. I also contribute to the World Kid Lit Blog and the Global Lit in Libraries Initiative.
With a background in export and soft furnishings, these form the backbone of my specialisation within commercial translation. Five years working for Romo Fabrics and previously at weaving mill Bowmer Bond Narrow Fabrics has given me a knowledge of textiles and their applications, particularly in a soft furnishings setting.
From my time working in Spain, I also hold a City & Guilds National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Travel Services. I particularly enjoy translating PR texts, such as press releases and company presentations. I have also translated journalistic articles for environmental NGO Mongabay LatAm. An example of these articles can be found here.

“Since Claire joined my team, I have been much impressed by her work. She is reliable and thorough, and it is obvious that she takes the trouble to check or query any doubtful items. She always sends in work, be it translations or editing, on time. She would be a valuable addition to any team.” Mirella Biagi, International Choral Bulletin
